Congraulations Martha!

This year’s award winner for the The Offices of the Dean of Students Award for Special Contributions is Martha Querin-Schultz from International Student Services.

The Offices of the Dean of Students Award for Special Contributions recognizes an individual who has taken on a task, activity or responsibility not included in his/her job description and/or someone who has done something extraordinary that directly impacts the quality of life at the UW out of the ordinary realm of student affairs activities.

The recipient of this award was cited as welcoming not only international students to the University, Madison and the U.S. but for the care and concern that she puts into welcoming their spouses and children. She has made a significant contribution to planning events and programs that are inclusive of international student families, her ISS ice fishing event is a solid example of this. Between 150-175 students and family members attended this event on the frozen Lake Mendota in front of the Red Gym. University of WI-Madison-International Students Services, ISS, hosted an afternoon of ice fishing on in February 2009 on Lake Mendota with DNR Warden Nate Kroeplin, Jim Kasuda and Jim Robinson.

Moreover she has created and edited the content for an new section on our ISS web page devoted to the dependents of international students.

Our own May Lee was honored at a reception hosted by the Office of the Vice Provost for Diversity and Climate, Monday, April 13, at the Pyle Center on the UW Madison Campus.

UW–Madison has created this award to honor the excellence, work and contributions of its many outstanding women of color faculty, staff, students and community members. This year marked the second annual UW–Madison Outstanding Women of Color awards.

They are:
May Lee Moua-Vue, student services coordinator, International Student Services
Peggy Choy, lecturer and senior outreach specialist, Dance Program and Southeast Asian studies
Sheri Williams Pannell, MFA candidate, Department of Theatre and Drama
Le Ondra Clark, Ph.D. candidate, Department of Counseling Psychology
and
Janice Rice, senior academic librarian in College Library who was the UW System winner.

WIEA Conference Madison, WI 4-7-2009

May Lee, Steph and Martha presented an encore presentation of "Going Hollywood, Using Films To Teach International Education" at the WIEA, Wisconsin International Educators Association, in Madison, WI on April 8, 2009.

We had a wonderful turnout and even with a few tech gliches had so much fun.
